Welcome to our packed June Postcard, the last month has been extremely busy. We attended the 'Save Windermere' rally last week, to raise the profile of the plight of our largest lake. You can watch a short film I made at the event in this month's Postcard.

Our first Leaders' Landscape Training sessions of the season are now on the website, do follow the link to take a look. And we're keen to publicise a survey currently running about transport in the Lake District - please do fill it in and share your views. Are there better ways of getting around the National Park?

It was Volunteers Week this week and we must say a massive THANK YOU to all our volunteers for everything you do. You gave us 6,335 hours of your time last year - helping with conservation work days, events, research, office tasks, and of course running the charity through our Board of Trustees.

There are lots of events coming up including many as part of the Westmorland Dales Scheme, and there's also a Coniston member meet and our AGM and Open Day in Orton next month, to which you're all welcome! We had a brilliant volunteer training session on veteran tree identification last week, and there's advance warning of our Night Under the Stars event in August. We hope you'll join in.

Finally, although the Roanhead Holiday Resort Plans have been submitted, they have yet to be validated by the planning authority, so we haven't been able to read or comment on them. We continue to work with the community and will update our Roanhead webpages as soon as there is any more news.

With our very best wishes,

Michael Hill
Friends of the Lake District
