Friends of the Lake District is the only charity dedicated to the protection of the landscapes of the Lake District and Cumbria. For 85 years we have been the protectors and independent voice of this beautiful place and our 6,500 members are vital. Our members are people who care deeply about the Lake District and want to see it thrive as a place for adventure, inspiration, wellbeing and tranquillity for present and future generations to enjoy. Our members live in Cumbria and all around the UK and with their help we:

  • Practically conserve important landscapes, habitats and native species
  • Campaign on major issues that will affect the Lake District and Cumbria
  • Inspire and educate local communities, visitors, outdoor practitioners and young people on how to look after this special place
