Welcome to our October Postcard. It's a mixed bag this month; we were disappointed to read that the UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world in the 2023 State of Nature Report. Another proposal for a holiday park on land next to the proposed 450 lodge Roanhead development has been mooted by developers, and we've joined other organisations in writing to Michael Gove about the threat that barn conversion proposals pose to national parks. All this only shows how vital our work continues to be.

On a more positive note, I’ve hugely enjoyed the recent celebration events for the culmination of our Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership project - take a look at the video of their amazing sound sculptures! And we’re making progress with our Dark Skies work, and convening important conversations about water quality. All that is in this month’s Postcard, plus news of our next Fell Care Day, and our Photo Competition winners. Enjoy!

With our very best wishes,

Michael Hill, CEO
Friends of the Lake District
