Welcome to our latest Postcard From the Lakes, and my first one as Chief Exec. I've had a great start, with a warm welcome from everyone, and some brilliant Friends events - thanks to everyone who participated in the Great Cumbrian Litter Pick, and all those who crossed Morecambe Bay with us last weekend in our annual fundraising event. Watch my short film of it by tapping the ‘play’ button above.

This month events are coming thick and fast - our volunteer summer training began last week, with a fascinating day discovering lichens at Hows Wood with expert Pete Martin. The next training event is a bird identification day next Wednesday (sign up below). Our Nurtured by Nature events continue and are open to all, though we prioritise key workers. And do join us at our Annual Walling Competition next weekend, as part of Shap Outdoor Festival. Our Dark Skies Officer Jack is also giving a talk there on Wednesday evening.

We've had lots of great feedback about our High Borrowdale virtual tour, so thank you for that, and planning-wise we were pleased to hear that the Brandelhow Cottage planning application was turned down yesterday. Meanwhile we hear that the Roanhead Holiday Resort Plans have been submitted, and will be on the planning authority's website to view shortly. We will be reviewing and responding, and we’ll keep you all updated on this important issue.

With our very best wishes,
Michael Hill
