Welcome to our latest Postcard From the Lakes, and this February has seen lots of Dark Skies activities - we had the third Big Switch Off in Ambleside and Grasmere last week to save energy and see more stars, with great support from the community. Thanks to everyone who took part. You can see the wonderful short film Jonny Gios made for us of it here.

We had a successful Moonwatch event at Kirkbie Kendal School, have been doing Star Counts and have written to the Defra minister about light pollution.

On the planning front we've submitted our response to the Elterwater Quarry application, and the Ullock Moss car park and plans for holiday apartments and a marina at Sawrey, on the site of the former water testing lab have both been withdrawn.

Powerlines have been undergrounded at Helton, out Westmorland Dales team have opened a new footpath in Tebay, and we're grateful for a generous donation for tree and hay meadow planting from the customers of the Olive Tree Brasserie. And don't forget the £2 bus fares have been extended to run until the end of June. Please use the buses!

With our very best wishes,
Friends of the Lake District
