Welcome to our latest Postcard From the Lakes. Like everyone, we were of course saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, who was a great champion of landscape and the environment and a source of inspiration for our work and the aims of our charity. We were proud participants in the Queen's Green Canopy scheme this year, planting hundreds of trees on our land in commemoration of the Platinum Jubilee.

We've been pondering history while out walling at Mazonwath, wondering about former wallers of the past. Our guest video blog this week goes a bit further back in time this week - to the neolithic period.

Our guest video blog this week is by Hannah Kingsbury, Cultural Heritage Officer for the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership, talking about the fascinating Little Asby Through the Keyhold project, which is entering its second year and providing some fascinating insights into life here 8,000 years ago.

There's lots of Dark Skies news - our Dark Skies Ambassadors programme got underway last week, and we're very pleased that Thorn Lighting and Cumbria County Council, our partners we've been working with to introduce more dark skies and wildlife- friendly lighting have won an award for their work!

With our very best wishes,

Friends of the Lake District
