The story so far... See all Blog posts on Dam Mire Wood>

After five hard weeks of work, Dan finished work on the new access to Dam Mire Wood at Threlkeld today.

The bridge ramps were built last week and one of the last jobs has been to erect a fence to divide the new path from the garden of Mike Hambrey who kindly gifted the land to Friends of the Lake District.

The grass seed is beginning to grow and in the next couple of months we will be adding some new hedge plants along the fenceline. Given the wet weather, we are delighted with how the path is coping with all the wet so far.

It has been brilliant to be working with DB Contracts and they have done a superb job for us on a difficult site!

We will be temporarily locking the access gate to allow the path surface to settle and bed down. At the moment it is really soft and whilst we want to encourage people to come and enjoy the land after all Dan’s hard work, we need to give the path a little longer to bed in to avoid potential damage to the surface.

In the meantime, we will be working on plans for a grand public opening sometime in early spring 2022, so watch this space. We will also be doing some conservation work in the future, so if you would like to help us with that, please get in touch via our volunteering pages>
