We are looking for lots of volunteers to give a day of their time at our Thirlmere Fell Care Day on Sunday 23rd September. The mass-volunteering event offers the opportunity for those who love the Lake District to put something back into looking after, and learning about it, while having a day of physical fun and camaraderie fuelled by cake!

Ruth Kirk of Friends of the Lake District said, “Thirlmere has taken a bit of a bruising this year, both from the threat of major development which would have substantially altered its tranquil character, to the toppling of many trees from storms over on the western shore which is still restricting access.

“So we want people to join us to give a bit of time and care back to this special place. We’ve got some wonderful activities for people of all abilities to get involved with including dry stone walling, maintaining upland fell paths, red squirrel conservation and monitoring, woodland management training, a landscape art workshop or trying the Scandinavian activity of plogging: combining a gentle jog/walk with litter picking.”

Booking on activities is essential to ensure a place on the activity of your choice. Bookings will be taken on a first come-first served basis. The hub for the day will be Swirls Car Park. For more information and book online here.
