The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick

The county-wide litter pick organised by conservation charity Friends of the Lake District takes place for a second time this year on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November. The event is an opportunity not only to clear up the county but spread the message to #leavenotrace.

Last year 75 litter picks took place across Cumbria as part of the Great Cumbrian Litter Pick, collecting over 500 bags of litter. We hope to continue this amazing effort this year and to bring people together to take community action for a cleaner Cumbria.

At the end of 2020, following the surge in litter during lockdown, we commissioned Keep Britain Tidy to undertake research into why people litter and recommending actions that we can trial to influence behaviour change. There’s no quick and easy solution to the litter problem but while we work on ways to educate and communicate more widely and effectively to change behaviours, there is something that we CAN do right away; and that’s to get out there and clean up.

Anyone can take part in The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick either by registering their own community or individual litter pick here: Register Your Local Litter Pick Group | Friends of the Lake District or by joining an organised pick for more information see: Local Litter Pick Groups | Friends of the Lake District

The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick 2022 is kindly sponsored by The North Face Explore Fund and EOCA, the European Outdoor Conservation Association.
