We’re delighted to announce Friends of the Lake District has won Bronze Award in the category of ‘Campaigner of the Year’ in The Great Outdoors Awards 2018.

The winners of these awards were voted for by the readers of The Great Outdoors magazine and by the hillwalking public.

Campaigning in 2018...

Thirlmere Activity Hub campaign

We ran a major campaign in opposition of a proposal for an activity hub sited at Thirmere. The planning application was ultimately withdrawn. Our nomination as 'Campaigner of the Year' is a credit to every individual who took the time to write to the planning authority with objections to the 'Thirlmere Activity Hub' planning application and to all of those who supported our campaign with donations and promotion of our concerns.

Why Landscapes Matter campaign

We also continue to campaign on behalf of the landscape of the Lake District and Cumbria. Our 'Why Landscapes Matter' campaign continues to inform, educate and provide opportunities for all to connect with the landscape. Our Great Landscapes Week held in August offered opportunities for members of the public to connect with the landscape and increase physical, spiritual and mental well-being with a week long schedule of free events.
More information about the campaign is available here.
