We now have 54 litter pick events taking place during our Great Cumbrian Litter Pick day being held this Friday July 6th with schools, businesses, organisations and communities across Cumbria taking part.

Our Great Cumbrian Litter Pick has also gained the backing and support of award-winning independent outdoors broadcaster, photographer and film-maker, Terry Abraham.

Terry commented,

“Where there is beauty there's often the sign of ugliness as a consequence of a careless few. Litter breeds litter. The fells don't have street cleaners. It's our collective responsibility to care for the landscape, and leave it in a better place for future generations.”

Ruth Kirk, organiser, said,

“As an added incentive for people to register and organise their own litter pick for Friday, we’ll be awarding a prize of an Environmental Improvement or Landscape Grant to the district which hosts the most litter picks. Currently South Lakeland is in the lead!

“We'll also be giving our packets of bee-friendly seeds to all of the schools taking part, encouraging children to ‘Drop Seeds, Not Litter!’”

How you can get involved:

  • Register to do your own local community or individual litter pick.
  • Or check the interactive map and sign up to choose to join one of the organised litter picks.
