There is not a corner of the county that has not been helped in some way by the support of a ‘Landscape Grant’ and benefitted from the scheme’s remit to sustain the rich, diverse, living pattern of landscape, wildlife and culture that makes Cumbria a unique and vibrant place.

Grant activity is back in full swing following the restrictions imposed over the Covid period and we’re delighted to be supporting our generous communities in Cumbria once more as they donate their time and bring their enthusiasm to a number of innovative projects in the county.

We provided funding to Wallace Seymour Fine Art and Cole’s Gallery to bring artists to the Lake District, engaging people with the landscape, heritage, and conservation of the Lake District and promoting sustainability in materials. A painting trip followed the River Duddon from source to sea, with stops at various spots along the river and country. With painters, writers and actors.

The trip documented and produced work for an exhibition inspired by the journey, the future conservation of the river and its poetic history. The exhibition has already visited Seathwaite (pictured below) with plans to visit Cole’s Gallery (Leeds).
