The Great Landscapes Festival is all about encouraging people to enjoy the landscape with free events being held across Cumbria from Monday 7th August to Sunday 20th August.

We've created the Festival to provide people with opportunities to get outdoors, explore new places and try things they may have never done before. There are plenty of free opportunities on offer to get out with the family or individually and learn about Cumbria’s landscape, its flora, fauna, heritage and management.

Kay Andrews, our Landscape Engagement Officer said:

“We have a wide range of free activities organised for the summer. We will be celebrating our spectacular night-time skies and wildlife with a ‘Night under the Stars’ event on the 14th August. Join us at Mike’s Wood near Staveley, where we will marvel at the beautiful moths, be amazed by bats zooming around catching insects and feel very small as we view the moon and stars through telescopes and binoculars.

“Or you might like to learn about the hidden geology of Dufton and the North Pennines with Geologist Stephen Mott, become a citizen scientist by taking part in The Big Windermere Survey or try an outdoor sound bathing workshop.”

Whatever your interests there are plenty of activities to choose from and the good news is that all of our Great Landscapes Festival events are free to attend but you’ll need to be quick and book your places!
