A local business is providing some welcome support to fuel conservation volunteers at our Duddon Fell Care Day on Thurs 8th Nov. Participants will be able to keep their energy levels topped up with a delicious range of cakes supplied by Plumgarth-based Ginger Bakers

Lisa from Ginger Bakers contacted us after seeing our press release saying ‘volunteers required for conservation and cake’ and offered to provide a range of delicious goods to support the cause.

Lisa said, "Conservation of our beautiful and amazing landscape is essential if we and future generations are to continue benefitting from it. We are keen to support the efforts of Friends of the Lake District in any way that we can at Ginger Bakers."

Ruth Kirk, Landscape Engagement Officer said,

“Free cake? We didn’t hesitate! Our Fell Care Days and conservation work parties are legendary for the baked goodies we provide to the wonderful volunteers who put so much physical effort into caring for, and enhancing, our spectacular Cumbrian landscapes. We’re delighted that local businesses like Ginger Bakers feel as passionate about looking after this place as we do.”

If your appetite has been whetted, willing volunteers can sign up from a wide choice of tasks taking place in the Duddon valley on the day including: dry stone walling, tree-planting, native forest restoration, Fix the Fells upland path maintenance, river fence restoration, tree cage construction, riverside path maintenance, watergate construction and gate and fence repair.

Bookings for conservation tasks are allocated on a first come first served basis, as is the cake reward! Activities run between 9:30 and 3:00. For more information and to book visit www.friendsofthelakedistrict.org.uk/Event/duddon-fell-care-day or contact [email protected]
