Saturday 30th July was a walk on a Biblical scale - 300 Friends of the Lake District supporters joined 500 others to cross the notorious Morecambe Bay, led by the famous Cedric Robinson MBE, the Queens Official Guide to the sands for over 50 years.

The "pilgrimage" started Arside and weaved through the maze of sand and channels to Kents Bank, our destination. The weather was very kind to us, and walkers enjoyed superb views across the Bay, out to sea and over the Lake District Fells.

Friends of the Lake District member, Nick Marston, summed the experience up:

"What a brilliant walk across the bay! As a seasoned walker even I found it unusual, if not a unique way to experience Morecambe Bay. A lovely atmosphere with dogs & children enjoying being 'out there'".

As well as everyone successfully completing the four hour walk, supporters raised over £4,500 towards Friends of the Lake District's work protecting the landscapes of the Lake District.

Friends of the Lake District's fundraiser, Sophie Hodge, says:

"We are very grateful to everyone who worked so hard to raise so much sponsorship. The Lake District may look rugged and wild but it is also a very fragile landscape and this money will help us ensure it is protected for many generations to come".
