Applications are now open for the University of Cumbria MSc Project "Landscape Character Assessment Monitoring Techniques Appraisal and Ground Truthing in the Lake District National Park".  The research portion of the MSc is funded by Friends of the Lake District.

The aim of the project is to investigate landscape character monitoring techniques used by other organisations and make recommendations for techniques which could be used to monitor change in landscape character in the Lake District National Park.  The researcher would then need to test these techniques in the field in a number of Landscape Character Types and Areas of Distinctive Character in the Lake District and investigate how they compare with each other in suitability, efficacy and replicability for the landscape character of the Lake District.
