We're inviting volunteers of all skill levels to take part in our regular workparty volunteering events scheduled throughout 2023. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities including tree planting, dry stone walling, gorse control, woodland work, hedge planting and tree maintenance.

We are seeking people of all ages and backgrounds, both local and visitors, to experience and enjoy the county’s amazing landscapes by volunteering for activities held on its land stretching from Threlkeld in the north to Kendal in the south, and from Broughton in Furness in the west, to Little Asby near Orton in the east.

Jan Darrall, Land Manager,

“We've expanded our volunteering opportunities on our land in 2023 as there is much to do and we have big ambitions for how we manage, develop and enhance the properties that Friends of the Lake District owns and manages.

“Come and help us in our woodlands, try your hand at building dry stone walls or sowing meadow plants to help our wonderful pollinators. It’s a great way to meet new friends and our famous array of workparty cakes will be on offer.

“You’ll be helping to sustain the rich, diverse, living pattern of landscape, wildlife and culture that makes Cumbria such a unique place.”

There will be a date and an activity to suit anyone who fancies giving something back and joining like-minded people in caring for the natural environment or restoring cultural heritage features.
