Land Manager's Diary: Read it here>

On Wednesday we were joined by 9 volunteers on the Helm near Kendal. We missed the glorious sunshine of the day before, but spirits were still high despite the drizzle and damp. We had a range of tasks to complete and this saw volunteers cover pretty much the whole of the 32ha site!

We have cleared branches from fences to prevent potential damage, removed some yew from the adjacent roadside which is poisonous to our stock if they decide to stretch over the fence for a nibble, checked and fixed 50 tree planters and put up some new signs asking people to help us protect nesting birds, especially around the Tarn area by keeping dogs on leads for the new few months.

Steve took on the task of putting up the signs on the gate and his canny watch told us in doing so he had walked 5 miles!! Who needs to go to the gym to keep fit when we have workparties on the go…(We should point out that you are free to work at your own pace and breaks and cake are a vital part of the day!)

Next week is our first workparty of the year at Sweden Wood at Ambleside, another site with glorious views over the Rydal valley. If you would like to join us follow the link and sign up!>
