Land Manager's Diary: Read it here>

BOOK onto one our upcoming workparties>

Cumbria has excelled itself with the range of weather it has thrown at us in the last couple of weeks. Temperatures of -9, heavy snow, rain and flooding. Our final workparty of the year had to be cancelled due to the conditions. Getting to Mike’s Wood at Staveley yesterday to meet up with friend and neighbour Harold to look at a dangerous tree about to bring down our wall was a challenge. We had to walk in from Staveley but there were some wonderful views on the way.

As the year draws to an end, we once again owe all our volunteers and friends a massive thank you for all your help and support over the year. The volunteers on workparties alone have given over 1400 hours of time over 36 workparties on our land. We have achieved so much, from wall building, coppicing, tree tube removal, new enclosures on the Helm, tree planting and other fun things such as wetland plug planting, bridge and watergate repair.  Hopefully that work has helped create new habitats for wildlife, more access for people, and helped with carbon storage for future generations. We genuinely could not keep up with all the work without our volunteers, thank you.

The programme for next year is available here>

We also introduced a volunteer training programme, and held 5 training days on our land covering hay meadow flowers, butterflies and moths, lichens, veteran trees and birds. We are in the process of working up the programme for next year, beginning with bryophytes in march. Watch our events page for more information.

So with other events this year, that is a whopping 51 events held on our land in the last twelve months!

Finally, we wish you all a happy and healthy Christmas and look forward to your company next year….
