Thirlmere Activity Hub

20th February 2018: We have received confirmation that Treetop Trek has withdrawn its ‘Thirlmere Activity Hub’ planning application. It will no longer be considered by the planning authority.

We would like to take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you who took the time to write to the planning authority with your objections to the 'Thirlmere Activity Hub', to those of you that sent us such wonderful images (and paintings) of the Thirlmere valley, those who attended our rally, donated to our campaign and offered us support and encouragement in our efforts to stop this development.

Write to the Planning Authority

  • Planning Reference: 7/2017/2298  (Major full application)
  • Proposal: Thirlmere Activity Hub: Development of a zipwire attraction, a series of improvements to the round Thirlmere cycleway, improvements to car parks, access paths and the extension and development of an existing toilet block to provide reception, changing area and toilet facility

Anyone, regardless where they live, can send in their comments to the planning authority. All comments submitted are considered by the planning officer dealing with the application. It is helpful and will give your response more impact if you cover issues that are relevant to the application under planning law and policy. We’ve provided some guidance below...

The best way to make your voice heard is to write to the Lake District National Park Authority (who is the Planning Authority) with your views on the application. Anyone can make comments on a planning application regardless of where you live, whether you are objecting or supporting the proposal. Below is a guide to commenting on a planning application:

You can also view the application in person at the Lake District National Park Authority Offices at Murley Moss Business Park in Kendal. If you want to see the planning application file in person you will need to make an appointment with the Lake District National Park Authority to do so, you can call them on 01539 724555.

Once you’ve had a chance to look at the application you can form your view on the proposals and submit your comments.
