Hay Meadow Gift

£18.00

Give a whole meadow of flowers and support our precious pollinators.

Description

Your gift will support our two beautiful hay meadows at High Borrowdale (GR 570029), and at Mazonwath, Little Asby.

The UK has lost approximately 97% of its traditional hay meadows since the 1930s, shrinking from over 3 million hectares down to fewer than 12,000 hectares today.

Upland hay meadows support rare wildlife, protect soil health, and help manage local water flow by slowing rainwater runoff. Low-fertility soils and traditional management prevent single grass species from taking over, allowing up to 50 or more plant species per square metre. Abundant nectar and pollen provide vital feeding grounds for bees, butterflies, moths, and other beneficial insects, which in turn provide habitat and food sources for birds and mammals. They are also an important part of the cultural and social heritage of the area.

If you would like to visit, the best time to see our meadows in full flower is normally the end of June, early July.

Your gift supports the management of land in the Lake District and Cumbria to create diverse, healthy and sustainable landscapes for all of us.

You will receive a beautiful A5 size gift card and certificate for you to personalise and give to your recipient or display yourself.  If you would like your gift posting direct to a recipient please call the office on 01539 720788 and we may be able to accommodate your request.
