I have spent much time visiting the Lake District since being a very young child. My mother and sister now live there. Who knows, perhaps I too will live there one day - I'd love that.

Whatever happens, it's a truly remarkable and beautiful place. You can still find unspoilt parts if you know where to go, especially out of season. But the Lakes need protecting, looking after and nurturing for everyone to enjoy in the future.

Friends of the Lake District is the only charity dedicated to the protection of the landscapes of the Lake District and Cumbria.

I'm fundraising to support their aims by walking across Morecambe Bay with my sister, led by the Queen's Guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson MBE.

I'm really excited - I've always wanted to do this walk - so please support me and the Lake District. We'd be really grateful. Nigel Hastings
