Your gift will help fund footpath repair work on Coniston Old Man, specifically the path from Braidy Beck car park to the summit of Coniston Old Man via Low Water which is traditionally thought of as the ‘main route’ up the fell. The route experiences extremely high footfall year round and its rich industrial archaeology and ecology is very vulnerable to damage and erosion. Essential drainage work is planned on the path leading up to and beyond Low Water in order to control the movement of water and support the integrity of previous work. This will include bolstering current drains, creating new ones, and landscaping around the path to focus walkers on one sustainable line. This will protect and enhance the resilience of the natural ecology and archaeology by keeping walkers on the path, and reduce current and future erosion damage. All work will be carried out by our partner Fix the Fells. Fix the Fells may, on occasion, use donations to support path work in other areas of the Coniston fells if necessary.
