Learn how to ID hedgerow trees and survey hedges
You will be spending the morning learning how to survey hedgerows and ID tree and plant species within the hedge. You’ll also learn the difference between a good and bad hedgerow, and their wildlife and livestock benefits. This training is mandatory if you want to take part in our Hedges & Edges Survey project.
- Location: Foxhill Farm, Matterdale End, Penrith, CA11 0LE (GR:NY412242 What3words:///gravitate.slogans.walls). Please use the what2words to navigate as the postcode doesn’t take you all the way to the farm. Parking is at the house and there is overflow parking at the B&B up the road. A staff member in hi-vis will be on-site to show you where to park. Parking is limited so please carshare!
- Date & Time: 2 August, 10am – 12:30pm
- Activity suitability: 18+
- Activity grade: Easy. We will be walking around the farm looking at hedges. There may be some wet/muddy/uneven terrain and some areas are a bit steep so bear that in mind.
- Please wear: Outdoor shoes (walking boots or wellies please) and a waterproof in case it rains.
- Please bring: Water bottle, snacks, pen, and notepad (if you want to take notes).
- Toilet & hand washing facilities: There are toilets inside the house that we can use.

Please note that we/other volunteers may take pictures during the day to use in our publicity and for recording progress on site. If you do not wish to be included in any pictures, please let us know on the day.
