Hedgerow Management Webinar

Hedgerow experts Nigel Adams, Megan Gimber, and James Robinson discuss proper hedgerow management, hosted by Friends of the Lake District.

Tuesday 15th September, 2026

To cut or not to cut? That IS the question!

It’s at this time of year that hedges are booked in for their annual trim, but how soon should you cut? What are the pro’s and con’s of trimming hedgerows early or later on? Should you even trim them at all? Hedgerows require management to stay in shape, and good management practices keep hedgerows healthy and increase their longevity. But what is ‘good practice’ and how can we apply it ourselves? To discuss these questions we have invited hedgerow experts Nigel Adams (Full-time hedge layer and consultant with over 45 years of experience in countryside management), Megan Gimber (Key Habitats Officer for People’s Trust for Endangered Species aka. massive hedge geek!), and James Robinson (fifth-generation organic dairy farmer and skilled hedge layer) to join us online so we can hash it out.

This webinar is aimed at farmers, landowners, and hedge contractors. Basically anyone dealing with hedges on a regular basis. But, feel free to attend if you are simply interested in the topic, or perhaps work for a conservation or land-management organisation. We will spend about 45 minutes to an hour talking with the panel, then we have a 30 minute Q&A slot at the end where you can ask us questions.
