Friday 10th July, 2026

Learn how to ID hedgerow trees and survey hedges

You will be spending the morning learning how to survey hedgerows and ID tree and plant species within the hedge. You’ll also learn the difference between a good and bad hedgerow, and their wildlife and livestock benefits. This training is mandatory if you want to take part in our Hedges & Edges Survey project.

  • Location: At Kitty House, Troutbeck, CA11 0SS (GR:NY389265 What3words:///remark.scribble.email). Parking is in the field on the left just before you reach the guest house. A staff member in hi-vis will be on-site to show you where to park.
  • Date & Time: 10 July, 10am – 12:30pm
  • Activity suitability: 18+
  • Activity grade: Easy. We will be walking around the fields looking at hedges. There may be some wet/muddy/uneven terrain but it’s mostly quite flat.
  • Please wear: Outdoor shoes (walking boots or wellies please) and a waterproof in case it rains.
  • Please bring: Water bottle, snacks, pen, and notepad (if you want to take notes).
  • Toilet & hand washing facilities: There are no toilets on-site, however we are hoping to get permission from the B&B to use the toilets there.

Booking is required to attend this event – please use the booking form below.

Please note that we/other volunteers may take pictures during the day to use in our publicity and for recording progress on site. If you do not wish to be included in any pictures, please let us know on the day.
