We have re-created two beautiful hay meadows at High Borrowdale (GR 570029), an area recently made part of the Lake District National Park. Traditional hay meadows are a very important habitat but have been dying out in the Lake District due to changing farm practices. As well as rare wild flowers the meadows support bees and insects which in turn support birds and mammals such as bats and hedgehogs. They are also an important part of the cultural and social heritage of the area.
If you would like to visit, the best time to see the meadows in full flower is normally the end of June, early July.
Your gift supports the management of land in the Lake District and Cumbria to create diverse, healthy and sustainable landscapes for all.
