Friends of the Lake District’s ‘Landscape Grants’ have been helping people to access the Lake District National Park for 70 years. In 2021, maybe more than any other year, the funding of improvements to access, landscape enhancements and to free events will be more welcome that ever, helping visitors and residents to experience and reconnect with the landscape.

As well as helping to fund the creation and repair of pathways and bridges, enhance habitats and help with local history projects, the grant scheme also supports community groups, charities, not for profit organisations and schools in delivering innovative free events and activities that provide opportunities for people to get outside, discover and enjoy something new about their natural environment.

Jan Darrall, Policy Officer at Friends of the Lake District,

“I’m delighted that we’re able to support projects that enable people to get outside, access and enjoy the landscape of Cumbria and the Lake District. We can support any project or events that help to connect people with the landscape.

“Grants of up to £1000 for landscape enhancements and up to £500 for events can be applied for via our website so do visit to find out more.

“We can also support larger landscape enhancement projects so if you have more ambitious plans then please do get in touch to talk to us, we may be able to help.”

The ‘Landscape Grant’ scheme also funds small scale projects and works that conserve or enhance the landscape or cultural heritage of Cumbria. It has supported projects to create school nature areas and major woodland areas, lay and restore hedgerows, build and restore dry stone walls as well as the restoration of bogs and moorland.

‘Landscape Grant’ support is available all year round for charitable organisations, voluntary and community groups, schools, social enterprises and local councils or conservation agencies.
