Welcome to our latest Postcard From the Lakes

Welcome to our latest Postcard From the Lakes. We are into the holiday season and we have lots of free activities lined up both in the Lake District and the Westmorland Dales.

In our guest video blog this week, Kay Andrews, our landscape engagement officer shows us around the 'Westmorland Dales Day' held at Kirkby Stephen on Sunday. A day to celebrate its amazing landscape and the people that live and work there.

We were pleased to hear this week that proposals we had challenged for a new permanent campsite in the open countryside of the Newlands Valley were refused by the Lake District National Park Authority's development control committee on the grounds of harm to the landscape.

We've got a wonderful soundscape of the Westmorland Dales for you to immerse yourself in, we report on the removal of overhead wires at Pooley Bridge and share images and footage of the final showing of our upland hay meadows at High Borrowdale.

And last but not least, we're busy gearing up for our Great Landscapes Festival which begins on Monday with a busy schedule of free summer events taking place across the county during the holiday period.

With our very best wishes,

Friends of the Lake District
