Take part in a sponsored walk like no other and raise money to protect the awe inspiring, yet fragile, landscape of the Lake District.

This year we are holding a sponsored walk on Sunday 21st May across the largest expanse of tidal mudflats in the UK, the shifting sands of Morecambe Bay. Don’t worry though, you’ll be in safe hands as the walk will once again be led by Cedric Robinson MBE, the Queen’s Official Guide to the Sands, who has been leading these walks for more than 50 years.

The event starts at 1.45pm from Arnside Promenade and ends at Kent’s Bank, near Grange-over-Sands at approximately 5pm. Everyone walking on the day will be walking for Friends of the Lake District, which should make for a great atmosphere! Booking is essential so reserve your place now.

The walk is approximately eight miles long and suitable for anyone who is comfortable walking for three to four hours. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and well behaved dogs are welcome. The majority of the walk will be on sand but there will be times where you will need to wade through some channels so be prepared to get wet up to your knees.

Last year our walkers raised an incredible £8,000 in sponsorship and this year we are hoping to reach £10,000. This money has a huge impact and will help to look after native woodlands and hay meadows; run campaigns to protect the Lake District from inappropriate developments and help people volunteer, learn skills and engage with this spectacular landscape.

Friends of the Lake District would like to thank Lakelovers Lake District Holiday Cottages who is kindly sponsoring the event. For more information:  www.lakelovers.co.uk
