Welcome to the August edition of Postcard from the Lakes.

This week we've been talking litter as part of our summer litter campaign to highlight simple messages about looking after the national park over the peak visitor season. Litter has been in the news quite a bit lately, due to a fashion for 'wild camping' outside of dedicated campsites.. You can read more about our 'There are no litter fairies' litter campaign below, and watch a short video with our Engagement officer Kay and some dedicated litter picking volunteers in Martindale.

Thanks again to everyone who's expressed their support for our Judicial Review over the approval of the Zip World attraction in the Langdales, Elterwater. There's more information about it in the link below.

There's lots of events this August, including a wild swim and hike, leaders landscape events, and walks in Asby, as well as of course our work parties. And we hope you'll join us for our 90th Birthday celebration AGM event in Keswick on 13th September, everyone is welcome.

And don't forget to go out and look up when it's dark on 12th August if you have the chance - you can see the Perseids meteor shower - there's no need for a telescope, just sit and wait for a beautiful show of shooting stars!

With our very best wishes,

Michael Hill, CEO
Friends of the Lake District
