Land we look after
Come and explore Friends of the Lake District's land
We own and care for various sites across Cumbria including woodland, valleys, common land and a hill top near Kendal.
Leading by example on our land
Friends of the Lake District has owned land in Cumbria since 1937 and now includes valleys, native woodlands, moorlands, uplands and commons. We own land in order to enhance the landscape of the area; carry out practical conservation projects; increase access and model best practice in land management.
We own and manage land across Cumbria and the Lake District. This work is coordinated by our land manager, Jan Darrall, who publishes a regular blog to highlight the amazing work carried out by our volunteers and to provide updates on site visits, events and plans for the future.
All of our land is designated Open Access, though some places are easier to reach than others. But you’re welcome to come and visit some of these hidden Cumbrian treasures anytime, or you can explore them with our fantastic virtual tours.
