Cumbrian landscape conservation charity Friends of the Lake District is launching its annual photo competition and asking for snaps of the Lake District to star in their calendars and Christmas cards to go on sale later in the year.

Whether you’re lucky enough to be able to visit this year or have photos from previous visits, all entries are welcome.

This year’s competition features a special ‘Reflections’ category which might include reflections on lakes, becks, pools, falls or other water features, in any season.

The winner of the Reflections category will be displayed in an exhibition which is planned for later this year at Brockhole gallery (subject to COVID regulations at that time) alongside the work of photographers Rosamund and John Macfarlane and artist Julian Cooper. The title of the exhibition is: ‘Lake District Reflections: An exploration of lakes, mountain becks and waterfalls from under and over the water surface.’

There will also be a ‘Dark Skies’ category again this year, celebrating the beauty of our night skies and complementing the charity’s Dark Skies Cumbria project to enhance and protect them.

“Whether fells, lakes, woodlands, villages, wildlife or something a little bit different we’d love to see your favourite photos and memories of the Lake District,” Fundraiser Rachel Dorrington said.

All money raised from the sale of the calendars and cards goes towards supporting the Lake District’s world class landscapes and heritage.

Photos must be submitted via our photography competition page.

Closing date is 1 July.
