Description: An ascent of Wansfell Pike from Ambleside by the quieter way, the old Hundreds Road, before descending steeply with spectacular views over Windermere and the Central Fells then back through the peace and shade of Skelghyll Woods to Ambleside.

Length of time and distance: 5.5 hours 10km 5.5 to 6 miles 450m ascent

Grade: Moderately strenuous, good level of fitness required

Terrain: Rocky and uneven paths. Fairly steep ascent and descent in parts. Wall and ladder stiles en route.

14+ accompanied by an adult

£3 to members and £5 per person for non-members.
