Dark Skies Cumbria

Saving Our Night Skies

Cumbria's dark skies allow us to see the natural wonder of the stars, but are also critical for the health wildlife and our own natural well-being. Sadly light pollution in Cumbria is increasing each year, threatening to obscure our view of the stars and blinding and confusing animals so they can’t feed or find a mate. We need urgent action now to stop light pollution. Stargazers, photographers, wildlife lovers and local communities… please help.

In conjunction with the Dark Skies Festival and Friends of The Lake District, enjoy an afternoon with dark skies landscape artist, Emma Hunt. Learn her simple techniques used to create beautiful eye catching paintings of the local area. Emma will guide you through producing your own amazing night sky image.

Emma Hunt rekindled her love affair with painting just over two years ago, motivated by the local landscapes here in Cumbria. Beginning as a coping mechanism for pain, painting became a source of therapy. Inspired by other local artists, she worked to create opportunities to showcase the local artists/photographers in Cumbria. She also teaches and volunteers in the community - pastel workshops for mental health and well-being.

Cost: £25 without materials, £25 extra with materials included. (Inscribe Pastels, 64 half sticks, Canson Mi Teinte paper)

Please book through Emma's website:
