Tree management and walling

Join our workparty for woodland work at Hows Wood, Eskdale.

  • Location: Hows Wood, Eskdale (between Kendal and Shap). Meet at 10am at Dalegarth Railway Station (GR173007)
  • Time: 10am – 3pm
  • Activities: Tree work, path clearance, branch lopping, dry stone walling.
  • Activity suitability: 16+
  • Activity grade: Moderate. We will be working on slopes and there is a short walk to the wood.
  • Please wear: Outdoor working clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty/muddy. Waterproofs and heavy boots or wellies. 
  • Please bring:Gloves, packed lunch, drinks. Loppers / bow saw if you have them.
  • Refreshment facilities: The famous array of Friends of the Lake District cakes will be available.
  • Toilet & hand washing facilities: There are no man-made toilet or handwashing facilities on site but plentiful artfully placed trees should you experience the call of nature. We will supply antibacterial hand gel.

Booking is required to attend this workparty. Please select the number of places required and select ‘Book’ to register your places.

Please note that we/other volunteers may take pictures during the day to use in our publicity and for recording progress on site. If you do not wish to be included in any pictures, please let us know on the day.
