Save Our Lake District (SOLD)

Zip wires, recreational 4x4s and motorbikes, gondolas or poorly considered path surfaces are all symptoms of a wider problem. We now find the Lake District National Park being ridiculed in the press and enough was enough. It is time for action.

Campaign Update - 5th February 2020

BMC supports the SOLD Campaign

We have been continuing to seek out and work with supporters of the campaign and are delighted to announce that the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) has signed up as a supporter of the SOLD campaign.

Dark Skies Cumbria
As part of the campaign we will be providing regular, positive examples drawing attention to ways of enjoying and getting to know the National Park.  One example is our Dark Skies Festival where we are working with a wide range of businesses within Cumbria to deliver a events based upon enjoying the night landscape and dark skies of Cumbria.

Houseboats Off Grasmere
This protest highlighted that we can all make a difference in protecting the unique landscape of the Lake District, and that if we shout together loud enough organisations and people will listen. Friends of the Lake District had a stand in Grasmere Village Hall on the day, we also produced banners and materials in support of our SOLD campaign and gave a rousing speech to the 500 gathered by Grasmere lake about the aims of the SOLD campaign.

Fearless souls demonstrating their love of Grasmere lake at a balmy 5.4C!

Well done to Andy Astle and the team behind the Houseboats-off-Grasmere campaign for organising this amazing event, and sending such a powerful message.

The Support is Growing
We have been overwhelmed by the positive response and support of the SOLD campaign. Whether that's by signing up to the campaign news updates, donating to the campaign appeal, marching through Grasmere or simply by spreading the word!

Our campaign will take time and resources, but when we succeed the Lake District National Park will be managed in the way that those before us envisaged; benefiting wildlife, the environment, and all of us in our busy, technology-driven lives.
