In this edition:

What a week - with more storms last weekend wreaking damage all over the north of the country, including to our own land in Cumbria, we lost some more large mature trees in the eight woodlands we care for in Cumbria, adding to those felled by Storm Arwen in November. So we are launching our Storm Arwen appeal to help repair the damage to the younger trees flattened in the storms, and replant to replace the trees lost. It will be lots of work for volunteers too, to get stuck into. And you can read about all the work going on on our land in a new 'Land Manager's Diary' that Jan will be writing regular updates for.

We're pleased that our new tree planting at High Borrowdale and Dam Mire Woods will be part of the 'Queen's Green Canopy' - a scheme to plant a tree for the jubilee to celebrate her platinum jubilee this year.

Next Saturday is start of Cumbria Dark Skies Festival, with some 20 plus events taking place all over Cumbria, and online to help us enjoy and experience the stars and darkness. Some events are already sold out so do have a look at it.

We've also welcomed some successful planning outcomes this week - with appeals for new housing at Thornthwaite and an airstrip near Penrith turned down by the planning inspector.

And there's a week left to tell the government to ban single use plastics, and you can also sign a petition to refuse the Cumbria coal mine, while we still await its decision.
