In this edition:

We embraced spring with a great volunteer effort at our hay meadows this week, plug planting 2,500 plants to add colour and diversity to our meadows this summer.

More member meets are scheduled, we've opened bookings for our Morecambe Bay Walk event, demonstrated our support for the 'No New Coal' petition and as ever, we can report on lots of news and activities from the Westmorland Dales Scheme team at Tebay.

We're currently writing a detailed response to the Glover Review but in the meantime I would encourage you to consider submitting your own response to this important consultation. We've made a short summary of our thoughts available to help inform your response to this consultation as the deadline approaches.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you, dear supporter, that I must announce my decision to leave Friends of the Lake District later this year.

As borne out by the usual breadth and volume of work featured in this ‘postcard’, I make this decision at what I believe it is a vibrant and exciting time at the charity. I have been Chief Executive for seven years which is a long time to lead a charity, but it is in good heart with a tremendous team of good people which will continue with its valuable and effective work.

This has obviously been a hard decision, but I now want more time for family and other interests. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and have been fortunate to have been part of some of Friends of the Lake District’s major achievements.

I have had the pleasure of working with informed and passionate people throughout the organisation and what has been the privilege of representing our valued members and supporters, who all have the interests of the landscapes of the Lake District and Cumbria at heart.

With very best wishes,

Douglas Chalmers, Chief Executive
