Whether you enjoy walking, climbing, fell running or simply stopping to take in the incredible scale of the scenery, the fells have a magic appeal. Despite their appearance, our fells are actually incredibly fragile. Friends of the Lake District have a number of policy areas aimed at protecting these impressive landscapes so many more generations of people can enjoy them.
Cumbria contains a third of the common land in England and it is hugely important for access, water, biodiversity and wildlife. We campaign for the importance of common land and village greens to be recognised, and increase the understanding of how complex the issues and laws related to these areas are. Read more
