Poetry Corner

Welcome to Poetry Corner. We received some wonderful poetry from participants at our photography and poetry masterclass with Rob and Harriet Fraser back in September and thought that some examples would be the perfect way to kick off this new section of our website. We'd like to invite you to submit your own words or images inspired by the landscapes of the Lake District and Cumbria.

To submit words to our 'Poetry Corner', email [email protected] or post to us here at Friends of the Lake District addressed to ‘Poetry Corner’. We'll also select our favourites for publication in future editions of our 'Conserving Lakeland' members' magazine.

4th August 2022: Drystone Wall Survey in Asby Parish

A slight departure today as we thought we'd share some fascinating survey work being carried out by the Westmorland Dales Scheme team in Asby Parish to put the areas drystone walls into a historical context and demonstrate how they reflect past land management.

We received the disappointing news that the Secretary of State will not ‘call in’ the proposed zip-wires at Honister and so the Authority’s approval stands. The Secretary of State is no longer required to give reasons for his decision.
