Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership The Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership Scheme aims to unlock and reveal the hidden heritage of the Westmorland Dales, enabling more people to connect with, enjoy and benefit from this inspirational landscape. Thanks to National Lottery players it has been supported by a grant from the Heritage Fund. Home About the Scheme Scheme Projects News Events Films Grants Get Involved Contacts Volunteers Needed – Heritage Projects Even though we’re still only a couple of weeks into the “Stay at Home” guidance, most of us will be looking forward to the time when we can get out and be active again. So what better time than now to mull over the potential volunteer opportunities that may be coming up in the Westmorland Dales. We still have a final week to complete of our archaeological survey of Great Asby Scar, which we hope will happen this September. So if you want to be trained in some simple archaeological survey techniques and help us to get a better picture of the area’s rich heritage do get in touch. We also hope that by then our survey of Traditional Farm Buildings will be up and running again. We’ll be organising some further training workshops and there’s already a good group of trained volunteers to join in with. There will also be other opportunities coming up which we’ll be refining over the coming months. The opportunity to get involved with keyhole archaeological excavations on Little Asby Common in 2021, a detailed survey of dry stone walls focussing on a particularly interesting part of the Westmorland Dales and a more general survey of small-scale heritage features on a parish by parish basis. We’ll be featuring some of these on our Instagram account to whet your appetite. If you are interested in volunteering for these projects then please email [email protected] for more information. And of course there will be further volunteering opportunities with our partners including Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Eden Rivers Trust and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority to name a few.
