Friends of the Lake District has been shortlisted in The Great Outdoors Awards 2017.

Voting is now open, and closes on November 15 2017. You can vote in any or all categories. Winners will be announced at the start of December.

Nominations for these awards come from readers of The Great Outdoors magazine and from the hillwalking public, and the shortlists are then compiled by the team at the magazine. 

We have been nominated in the category 'Campaign or Campaigner of the Year' for our successful campaign urging National Grid to place power lines underground through the western section of the Lake District National Park, sparing the area from the threat of 50m tall pylons through 24km of the national park.

'National Grid is to spare the Lake District National Park from the prospect of 50 metre tall pylons being built through 24 km of the park.' The decision was announced by National Grid on 24th October 2016 after a long campaign and detailed in our press release on that day
