Through the generosity of the landowner, a Friends of the Lake District member, a new wood has been created just off the Scandale path. With the help of grants from the Forestry Commission and Windermere Reflections, we have planted 400 trees, such as crab apple, hawthorn, hazel and rowan to increase winter food supplies of berries and nuts for birds and put up nest boxes to provide nest sites for woodland birds, including redstarts, spotted flycatchers, tree pipits and wood warblers. Local school children helped plant the new trees and build the nest boxes.

Due to safety issues there is no public access to Sweden Wood.
