From Saturday 2nd to Saturday 9th September 2017 Friends of the Lake District is inviting you to come into our great Cumbrian landscapes; to immerse yourself and to share your thoughts, ideas, comments about why landscapes are important to you. A packed programme of events offers a whole range of ways, suiting every interest and ability, to get involved and experience the landscape. Click the button to visit our Great Landscape Week website section for all of the details.

As an introduction to Great Landscapes Week, we'll be launching “Why Landscape Matters; a Landscape Charter for Cumbria and the Lake District.  The Charter has been created to explain why landscape matters to everyone, to affirm Friends of the Lake District’s commitment to protecting the remarkable landscapes of Cumbria and to highlight how it will work towards supporting a living, working, wildlife friendly and culturally rich landscape in Cumbria.

Douglas Chalmers, Friends of the Lake District,

“In light of recent research suggesting that British people are becoming increasingly detached from wildlife, the countryside and nature, the launch of our charter and week of celebrations is timely. Great Landscapes Week will provide a whole series of opportunities for everyone to think about, engage with and enjoy the landscapes we are blessed to be surrounded by.”

Free events based around the 5 senses of taste, smell, touch, sight and sound will run throughout Great Landscapes Week. A photography and poetry masterclass, a bat walk, meeting the Fell Ponies, a volunteering fell care day, and a wellbeing day are just some of the activities on offer.

Details and information on events is provided on the greatlandscapesweek.org.uk website where you can also submit your own pledge to the landscape and upload your favourite images to the Great Landscapes Week photo competition. Use the buttons to get involved!
