Nurture Lakeland, a core partner with us on the Fix the Fells project, has nominated a project to repair footpaths to the summit of The Old Man of Coniston with the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA). It's now been shortlisted for one of their prestigious international awards totalling £28,000.

To secure this funding, the project must win a public vote which will be open until 22nd March 2016.

Voting has now closed. Thanks to everybody who took the time to vote and support the Fix the Fells project.

If successful, it will enable the Fix the Fells programme to repair one of the most popular routes in the Lake District which runs from Goat's Water to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston. The route is heavily eroded in places from the pressure of walkers. nYou can view images and follow updates on Nurture Lakeland's Facebook page 'We-Love-Coniston_Old-Man"

The European Outdoor Conservation Association are a group of businesses in the European outdoor industry who have come together to raise funds to put directly into conservation projects worldwide.

We need everyone to get ready to vote for Fix the Fells – friends, family, colleagues, businesses, visitors - anyone who knows and loves the Lake District.

The restoration project will reduce erosion scarring and protect vulnerable vegetation and landscapes on the Old Man. Sediment from footpath erosion causes problems in streams and lakes downstream and rare vegetation and rock features are at risk of being damaged when walkers stray from the path.

The funding would be used to employ 4 highly skilled lengthsmen to repair the path using traditional techniques, and support 20 dedicated Fix the Fells volunteers who would maintain the repaired path.
