Morecambe Bay Walk Walk across the stunning Morecambe Bay and raise money to protect the beautiful landscapes of Cumbria. Last year over 100 Friends of the Lake District supporters took part in this unique 8 mile sponsored walk. The walk takes you across the largest expanse of tidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom. This landscape is constantly moving and shifting so Cedric Robinson, the Queen's Official Guide to the sands for 50 years, will be leading the way.The walk is suitable for anyone who is comfortable walking for 3 to 4 hours. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and well behaved dogs are welcome. The majority of the walk will be on sand but there will be times where you will need to wade through some channels so be prepared to get wet up to your knees. This popular event will take place on Saturday 13th June, starting at 3pm from Arnside Promenade. The walk will end at Kent's Bank, near Grange-over-Sands at approximately 6.30pm. This year Friends of the Lake District hope to raise £7,000. This will go towards its vital work planting native woodlands and hay meadows; running campaigns to protect the Lake District from inappropriate developments and helping people volunteer, learn skills and engage with this spectacular landscape. Registration costs £10 and includes a free event t-shirt.
