We’re really pleased to see that changes have been made to proposals for a Premier Inn Hotel in Keswick, directly reflecting points made in our response to the plans.  Whilst we remain aware of the concerns of many within the community relating to the principle of the development and the impact of a hotel of this nature and size, we think the changes make a substantial improvement to the detail of the scheme.

The revised Heritage Statement now covers in some detail important aspects that were previously omitted, including an assessment of the impact on the Conservation Area and it’s setting and the importance of these to the wider settlement and landscape character. Also now included are an assessment relating to views into and out of the Conservation Area. This includes views to and from the surrounding fells and from historic viewing stations such as Latrigg, as well as from the Cumbrian Way.

A further addition is a more detailed assessment of the specific cultural heritage and World Heritage Site implications. The addition of this information will mean that a more informed assessment of the proposal’s impacts can be made.
