Planning Update 23 December 2019

Far from winding down for Christmas, our Planning Officer is busy researching recent applications and projects ready to submit our expert and considered responses.

We are aware of some current applications within the Lake District National Park that have also drawn the attention of other organisations and local people including our members. These include proposals for a marina redevelopment with holiday letting and residential units just south of the Youth Hostel at Waterhead, Ambleside (7/2019/5761) and proposals for moorings on Grasmere for 10 no. 40-foot long boats for recreational use, including their use as overnight accommodation for up to 7 nights (7/2019/5808).

It is important to note that the proposal at Grasmere is not a planning application but an application for a ‘Certificate of Lawful Use’. This means that consideration of the proposal will be limited to whether the proposed use is a legal use of the lake or if it actually constitutes a change of use requiring planning permission.

We will be submitting comments on these proposals early in the New Year and have already begun work on these.

We will upload our responses and any updates here as they become available.
