Christmas Carol to Thirlmere To the tune of "It came upon the midnight clear" They can’t put zip wires o’er Thirlmere, The vision turns us cold. Of people flying through the sky And tightening their hold! Peace in the Lakes, we should expect, And planning rules agree! This valley is a special place, “Don’t spoil it” is our plea. Straight through the cloven skies they’d come The peaceful skies despoiled Excited screams would surely pierce Through all the weary world; Above the sad and damaged lake They’d slide on whining lines. Destroying peace we all believe, Tranquillity defines. Yet with the woes of sin and strife The Lakes can calm us down; Immersed in all this peace and quiet Soothes every care and frown; And man, up in the air, hears not This glory on his ride: O hush the noise, ye men on wires, And hear that countryside. For lo! the days are hastening on, For us to make our mark, Object to this outrageous plan, By writing to the Park; They need to know how strong we feel, That we believe we’re right, And you’ll find all the facts you need By visiting this site: https://www.friendsofthelakedistrict.org.uk/thirlmere Manage Cookie Preferences
